I have a set of Tein coilovers and full Legacy GT rear suspension collecting dust in my office—just haven’t found the time to install this stuff.
Fortunately a friend digitally installed this stuff with Photoshop. I think it looks killer, and it’s lit a fire under my ass to get it done, hopefully next week.
BTW, it’s an ‘06 Outback XT 5-speed manual pushing close to 350 HP and 400 lb. ft. Exhaust is dead quiet and full stock. Thinking of installing some electric cut-outs for the best of both worlds.

Looks fantastic. And do the cutouts. Does it have a flat six or am I an idiot?

Oh wow! That's a solid amount of power from a flat four then! Subaru did offer a flat six in a wagon though didn’t they?

Cutouts would be the coolest option, but I think you could get used to the sound of an FMS catback system . It’s a lot smoother and more driving-style-dependent (loud when you want it, quiet-er when you don’t) than most LGT/OBXT aftermarket systems.

Looks amazing - get that installed ASAP! Fellow Legacy GT owner here (‘05 manual). The cutout idea intrigues me...I’ve been wondering if such a thing exists myself?
I love how quiet and pleasant the car is for commuting and just peaceful getting from A to B...but I do love the sound of the boxer too (My exhaust developed a crack once and the half day I drove around with that I was giggling like a child) - would be awesome to be able to switch it in on and off when you want it. Sounds simple enough...if properly marketed such a remotely controllable valve would be an awesome and simple mod (of course purely cosmetic) that would make a killing.

Yeah, seriously. I’m curious to hear what he’s done to the car (and how reliable it is). Given the baby seat in the back I’m assuming it’s somewhat of a DD at least.
And yes, you’re right - Subaru did sell the Outback with an H-6 as well in the 3.6R models. Honestly don’t know much about them, definitely an interesting engine configuration!

there are plenty out there already, QTP is probably the best known exhaust bypass valve

Yes, in automatic form only. A shame, because it’s a nice motor. People like to put them in 911’s.

Mostly some mild turbo/plumbing work and a protune/Cobb Accessport. 100% reliable, stock drivability, idle, same horrible gas mileage.
Yep, it’s a daily, but I don’t commute. Still gets 250 miles a week use though, just not in stop and go.
It’s very quick—love embarrassing Porsche and M drivers.

Thanks man. Congrats on owning a great car! Any mods on your side?
:ole Tareim said, there are already off-the-shelf solutions for electric cutouts.

That does sound good, thanks for sharing. Agree with the guy’s assessment that it’s a grown-up STI. I like the idea of cutouts for the ability to be balls-out obnoxious or 100% sleeperish, though—covers both of the moods I drive in pretty well.

Wow, that’s interesting. I’ve just done the Cobb Accessport “stage 1” flash...honestly not sure how much difference I feel with it, but it’s been a while so maybe if I switch back to stock I’ll notice a difference.
When I first got the car I wanted to do some mild mods similar to yours - had no idea it could yield so much results (I might have been more motivated to do them if I had known!)...but with time I’ve lost interest, and the car rarely gets driven anymore. With a wedding a few weeks away and reduced garage space I’m starting to consider getting rid of it (and the fiancee’s jeep) in a few months to consolidate into something we can share.
